Open question

Why does Sodor have so many rail lines? Was it government manipulation from a wealthy speculator? Wouldn't cars (or even horse and buggy) be easier for the inhabitants? Has a commission ever looked into this?

That's a good question. Another question that wonder every time Thomas darkens our TV is: Why does the British version of the NTSB seem to have no jurisdiction over this island? "And then there was trouble. Luckily no one was hurt." Why is Sir Tophamhatt not doing some serious jail time?

Another question is: for such a small island, why are there so many trains?

The answer: the evil people at HIT Entertainment (or whoever owns the rights to Thomas) want parents to be roped into buying new engines on a constant basis. Thomas is ALWAYS getting "new" friends and yet none (as Hans mentioned) never die/destruct.

Aha! watching a tiny bit of the beginning this morning, I now remember that back in the day, when I was a teenage babysitter, "Thomas & Friends" was called "Shiningtime Station" and only featured about 2, 5 minute Thomas stories per episode. The rest of the show was the Barney-esque adventures Didi Conn and a couple of kids (only the kids could see the tiny engineer, Ringo, and later Carlin, that told the Thomas stories)

Do they still run these? Or is there not enough market for a talking Didi Conn doll?
