There Will Be Blood - 2007

This movie stars Daniel Day Lewis as a Texas oilman in the early 20th century. He's vulgar, violent and a terrible parent. And it's impossible to take your eyes off of him. Day Lewis is very impressive in this film.
Unfortunately, the movie really isn't that great. The cinematography is interesting and well shot but the story isn't that interesting. I don't mind movies that take their time unfolding but this was too slow. And worst of all, the music is mostly atonal string sections. There's a line between excruciating and ominous and this music kept swinging back and forth.
Wasn't really impressed.

Oh. My. God. We watched the first 1-1/2 hours of this and pretended like we needed to go to bed and would finish it the next night. Did we? Nope.

That being said, Daniel Day Lewis is still a phenomenal actor and worth watching in anything. I mean, seriously, has he made any slip-ups?

Eeek, yeah, the music.

Brought to you by the same folks who do the soundtrack to "Lost"...losts of sliding on the strings to induce chills.

Why don't they just get a giant chalkboard and some nails? Cheaper and the same effect.

Except in Lost the music doesn't carry every scene. It isn't nearly as intrusive. Grrr.
