Dude, Where's my Thunderstorm?

The last few days have had the same forecast: partly cloudy in the morning and thunderstorms swooping in during the afternoon/evening. Well, we didn't get a storm yesterday and I don't see one on the horizon for tonight. Foiled again!
Last Thursday there was an ugly, ugly looking storm cell that approached. The wind was strong and the air had that particular tightness that it gets when big weather is a comin'. The sky turned yellow and I started wondering if I should move the bouncy seat into the basement. And then it went around us!
And maybe I shouldn't complain about that since the whole storm caused lots of damage and a few deaths. I'm really not looking for anything bad like that to happen. But I do want some thunder and lightning!

Yeah, don't complain. I drove back to WI in it last night. From Madison to Racine at 35 mph. Came home to a tree down in my front lawn.

I don't know what the air pressure around the river does, but storms seem to always surround us like we're in a bowl of clouds and they just scoot right by. I'm not complaining though. I'm terrified of storms.

2024 Olympics?

Next week the US Olympic Committee will decide if they'll bid on the 2024 Olympics (I'm betting they will) and may decide on which city they'll put forth to host.  There are four cities on the host list: Boston Los Angeles San Francisco Washington DC I've long believed that if the US bids on 2024, they will win.  The US hasn't hosted an Olympics since Salt Lake City in 2002 and no summer games since Atlanta in 1996.  Given the importance that the US has, particularly in funding, a 28 year gap is a huge one. So who gets the nod?  I have absolutely no insider knowledge but I'd like to make some guesses.  Pure speculation to follow. Box Elder Bugs

Yesterday morning's breakfast started badly. I'd split my bagel in half and was ready to toast it when I noticed a BOX ELDER BUG sitting on the toaster. The FP Gal tried to help remove him but it looked like he went into one of the slots. Not cool. She then shook out the toaster over the garbarge while I helpfully supervised from the other side of the kitchen. After that we couldn't see it in the toaster. So...we did a test run to smoke it out. Nothing. After careful inspection I finally toasted my bagel. Carefully checked it for embedded insect. Found it clean and ate it. Whew! This morning I sliced my bagel. And found another Box Elder bug on the toaster. The FP Gal was still asleep so I had to take care of it myself. Kleenex over mouth, eyes barely open and a quick paper towel latter it was gone. Seriously, if I find another one tomorrow we have to sell the house.

Airport Code Game

As you doubtlessly know, airports are known by a unique three letter code. Traditional initials also have three letters. I propose a game. Go here , to an airport code website and enter your initials. Then come back and leave a comment regarding which city you are connected to. The person with the largest city wins! I'll start (and create examples). PGD (me) - Punta Gorda, FL (per Wikipedia the population is 16,762) ARD (Relia) - Alor Island, Indonesia (Wikipedia puts the population at 168,000) FPG (FP Gal) - no known airport (Wikipedia thinks that lots of people don't live at airports but for the purpose of this game she gets a score of 0) So go ahead and give it a try.
