Thanks. I just finished "Life of Pi" and, while it was OK and makes one think, I have to say I was a bit disappointed...or maybe I'm missing the point (which has happened before). Did Pi make up the tiger story to entertain himself and the second story with human characters was real?
Rachel, you didn't miss the point at all. There's a small chapter about 50 or 60 pages in where Pi talks about religion and why he believes. It's crucial to understanding your question.
