Zombie Family

Last night Relia woke up at 1a. I had the mid-watch so I got up and went into her room. We laid there for nearly an hour, neither of us falling asleep. Then the FP Gal came in. She said that she was having trouble sleeping so she'd take over.
I went back to bed but couldn't fall back asleep. So, about 2a I went downstairs and started a movie. Not ten minutes later the FP Gal brought Relia downstairs. I let them take over my movie and I went upstairs to read.
Around 330a they came up to join me in bed. None of us had slept since 1a. We talked for a bit and then turned on a replay of the Olympics. Relia really wished that they were showing skating instead of skeleton but what can you do? (She's been very cutely skating around the house for the last week.) We turned over to the Cosby show. God bless Nick at Night. Around 430a she wanted to go back to her own bed. The FP Gal took her. I dropped off pretty quickly.
About 630a Relia was up again. The FP Gal was fast asleep in her bed, never having come back to ours. I roused myself and brought her down and fed her breakfast.
And that was our night.
These short nights our really killing us. Tonight will be my night and I'm hoping that the FP Gal sleeps all the night through. Me too. Actually, if Relia can make it all night I'm pretty sure we can do our parts.

curious, when she wakes up why do you go and get her? Or does she walk to your room?

She walks into our room. She figured out the door knob on her room a while back and now there's no containing her.

oh my. THat is my nightmare. Ours luckily hasn't figured out how to climb out of her crib. We are keeping there until she does or she grows out of it.

Claire goes through these phases too. We've started doing a modified bed time routine again (no reading) and sometimes that does the trick.

2024 Olympics?

Next week the US Olympic Committee will decide if they'll bid on the 2024 Olympics (I'm betting they will) and may decide on which city they'll put forth to host.  There are four cities on the host list: Boston Los Angeles San Francisco Washington DC I've long believed that if the US bids on 2024, they will win.  The US hasn't hosted an Olympics since Salt Lake City in 2002 and no summer games since Atlanta in 1996.  Given the importance that the US has, particularly in funding, a 28 year gap is a huge one. So who gets the nod?  I have absolutely no insider knowledge but I'd like to make some guesses.  Pure speculation to follow. San Francisco is an interesting choice.  The Bay Area is certainly beautiful.  I'm guessing (I haven't checked into it) that there are enough venues in NoCal to satisfy the sporting requirements.  Between the professional teams (six?) and the number of big time colleges, there must be.  Throw in the big mo...

Box Elder Bugs

Yesterday morning's breakfast started badly. I'd split my bagel in half and was ready to toast it when I noticed a BOX ELDER BUG sitting on the toaster. The FP Gal tried to help remove him but it looked like he went into one of the slots. Not cool. She then shook out the toaster over the garbarge while I helpfully supervised from the other side of the kitchen. After that we couldn't see it in the toaster. So...we did a test run to smoke it out. Nothing. After careful inspection I finally toasted my bagel. Carefully checked it for embedded insect. Found it clean and ate it. Whew! This morning I sliced my bagel. And found another Box Elder bug on the toaster. The FP Gal was still asleep so I had to take care of it myself. Kleenex over mouth, eyes barely open and a quick paper towel latter it was gone. Seriously, if I find another one tomorrow we have to sell the house.

Airport Code Game

As you doubtlessly know, airports are known by a unique three letter code. Traditional initials also have three letters. I propose a game. Go here , to an airport code website and enter your initials. Then come back and leave a comment regarding which city you are connected to. The person with the largest city wins! I'll start (and create examples). PGD (me) - Punta Gorda, FL (per Wikipedia the population is 16,762) ARD (Relia) - Alor Island, Indonesia (Wikipedia puts the population at 168,000) FPG (FP Gal) - no known airport (Wikipedia thinks that lots of people don't live at airports but for the purpose of this game she gets a score of 0) So go ahead and give it a try. Leave your answers in the comments. Wikipedia look up available upon request. I honestly have no idea who will win this but I'm curious.
