You know...

...what the world really needs? You know what invention would make someone an absolute boatload of money? I'll tell you what it is. Someone should develop a universal remote that will turn the bass down in nearby cars.
A few years back there was a hullabaloo about people talking remotes to bars and turning off TVs. This would be the same type of thing. Yes, there are property rights issues, but frankly I can't picture a legislature that would pass laws against these or a jury that would convict. I'd pay $100 for one, easy.
This post is brought to you from the jerk down the street who is parked and talking to his friends while his music plays and plays and plays. May his battery run low. Very soon.

We haven't had any problems with bass noise here since it's pretty much outlawed on base (heh, heh that's a little play on words), but we do have the problem of having to listen to every party, every argument, every child's tantrum (not that we don't have them going on) going on with the other 200 families living within 100' of us. Woo-hoo.

I used to dream about living in St. Paul. Now I'm thinking maybe I'll live in the country. FAR out in the country.

I suppose that calling the police for disturbance isn't an option?

I thought about calling the police but decided it was a bit of overkill. If it was a loud party, that lasted too late, that's one thing. Some idiot with his bass turned up in the car isn't quite as bad.

When I was at the good ol' Spew of Phelgm and mastadons roamed the earth, the frat boys used to serenade the campus every weekend evening with their tricked-out car stereos playing the latest artillery-bombardments-masquerading-as-music. One Saturday night, my friends and I had had enough, so we hopped into one guy's car with a CD player/changer, turned the treble waaaay up, and put in five bagpipe and classical CDs for a concert on Frat Row in springtime.

Night Lights

Here are ten strange night lights . The FP Gal has one of the series from number 10. My favorite is number three. The fifth one is the scariest by a wide margin. Speaking of night lights, we got one of these this weekend (though the price was better). We've put it on a timer and told Relia that she has to stay in her room until the light turns off at 530a. The first couple of nights have not been exactly smooth but we think we can see some progress. This morning she spent a very rough time from 5a until it finally clicked off. Lots of yelling, crying and a costume change (seriously). Then the time expired and she wall smiles. It was something of an achievement. On a side note, she's developed a funny habit when the yelling doesn't work. She starts by calling out 'mommy' or 'daddy'. If that doesn't work, she goes to our first and last names. The ugliest state

The FP Gal and I are starting to plan us a little road trip. Well, not sure how little it'll end up being. We're both hoping to add a state or two to our personal travel history. Anyway, it made me think of a curious discussion item I ran across a few years back. What's the ugliest state you've been to? Mine is a two way tie between Kansas and North Dakota. Car names

Your cars all have names, right? That's only normal behavior, isn't it? A few weeks ago one of my coworkers bought a car and was very excited about it. The only damper on her joy came when I asked if she'd picked out names yet. She looked at me blankly so I asked everyone in our row. Name after name. Some were cute names. Some were based on the license plate. Some had adjectives (i.e. 'Sassy Girl'). She'd never heard of this before so she started taking suggestions. I gave her 'the red menace' but she's too young for that to have meant anything. To my shame though, my car doesn't have a name either. Somehow in the four years of owning her a name never popped out. That simply wouldn't do! And it didn't have to be that way. After discussing it with the FP Gal, I chose a name that she'd shot down for the baby. Now that I've bought her, she will be called Pagoda .
